I'd like to selectively remove 50Hz electrical noise from my data whilst keeping lower frequencies (~5Hz) so proabably using a low band pass filter. Could anyone give me any pointers on where to start using the IFDL package, or if there is an easier way to do this?

If you are using Igor Pro version 6 or greater, there is a very nice Filter Design and Application control panel that comes built in to Igor (and is also free, unlike the IFDL package). To use it, go to Analysis --> Filter. Click the help button at the bottom of the panel to bring up an Igor help file with more information on how to use the panel.
