Problem with entering tab-separated files

Hi,

I am new to Igor, and I am having trouble with the data collecting procedure described in the Data Folder Tutorial. This procedure has options for assessing either a single data file, or a group of data files. When I construct tab-separated files with the extension ‘dat’, the single file option will accept such files provided that the Plain Text Files option of the Save Window is changed to All Files. When using the option for inputting a group of files, however, it is not possible to specify the format of the files in the Save Window, and subsequently the data files are dimmed out and cannot be entered.

From the procedure it appears that when the procedure itself produces data files, it uses the extension ‘rtf’. Changing my own data files to having that extension makes no difference to the problem.

Since I should very much like to be able to input groups of data files, I would very much appreciate any help in resolving my problem.

The Documentation notebook says this in the section "Loading Lots of Data Using a Procedure":
Quote:
From the Macros menu, choose Load Data Sets From Folder. This displays the Choose Folder Containing Data Files dialog.

At this point, Igor is not asking you to choose files. It is asking you to choose a folder - the "Sample Data" folder in this case. The next two paragraphs give instructions for choosing the folder on Macintosh and Windows.

This works correctly for me on both Macintosh and Windows using Igor Pro 6.37.
