Always open help browser when I was trying to click "Help for XXX (functions/operations)"

Hi all,

I was be able to pull up ihf files if I right click on any functions/operations and then click "Help for XXX". But now Igor always opens help browser if I do the same thing...

Does anybody know what I did to my Igor?

thanks!

For historical reasons, Igor opens the help browser if XXX is an external operation or function. If it is built-in, it should open the help file itself.

Thanks for the reply, hrodstein.

I thought "ModifyBrowser" is a built-in operation... It is just kind of annoying that Igor opens the help browser.

Many thanks!

Another for what it's worth, I prefer the Help Browser. The information is the same, but the Browser has the Copy Template button and an alphabetized list of functions and operations that is relatively easy to scroll through.

My annoyance is that clicking on a "See Also" link opens Igor Reference.ihf instead of jumping to the item in the help browser. It would also be nice to have back & forth buttons to navigate through recently viewed subjects, but then this is getting into items better posted on the wish list.

The goal of my recent fix was to make the behavior of clicking the "Help for " contextual menu option in a procedure window behave the same whether or not is a built in or external function/operation.

I actually prefer the Help Browser as well, but I'm sure others prefer that the help window come up. One advantage of the help window, especially for XOPs, is that it's easier to find additional information relating to the function/operation in the help file that's part of adjacent help topics.

No need to post on the wish list, as that's something I've thought about implementing, but it's a complex problem. I might look into ways to improve the help browsing experience after Igor 7 is released.
